Jerry’s Jots:
Memorial Day is the official kick-off for the summer. That means that the kids are out of school for the summer and summer vacations are in the making. It is a time of sunshine and sunburn. A better form of summertime activity is “Sonshine.” While you are out and about, doing your “summer thing”, let the Son of God shine in your life. Jesus said, “let your light shine that men might see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matt. 5:14). By allowing God’s light to shine in us, we bring the focus upon God and what He has done in our lives. Jesus did not tell us to produce our own light. Many men are busy in life, producing a light, but it brings no glory to God and only credit for their accomplishments.
We serve as a “conduit” for the Sonshine of life. As a result, we not only bring glory to God, but we also show the lost the way to God is through Christ. There are so many today who are stumbling in the darkness, searching for answers to life’s dilemmas. You and I can help them by simply reflecting the light of the Son.
The Sonlight also serves as a warning. Everyday we are directed and warned by lights. Flashing lights warn us of upcoming danger in the highways. When our neighbors and friends see the light of God in us, it warns them that there is a danger in the highway of life ahead if they fail to heed the warning.
This summer, when you reach for those sunglasses, remember the most important light of all is the light of God. It is reflected in everything we do and every day we live.
